Did everyone enjoy The Dark Knight?

Movie buzz

Pineapple Express (release August 6, 2008; click here for preview) – Two great actors (Seth Rogen and James Franco) team for what looks like the best action-comedy in years. When two stoners hold the keys to a murder investigation that could put a drug kingpin behind bars, they have to get the hell out of town before the goons can get them. The fact that they are talking sequel and the preview is sick has me REALLY psyched.

Sixty Six (release August 1, 2008; click her for preview) – Just because this came out about two years ago and is just finally being released in the states does not deter me from thinking this movie will be great – Helena Bonham Carter is in it! The movie follows a boy who dreams his Bar Mitzvah will make him legendary but it is England’s 1966 World Cup victory that becomes legendary.

Movie fuzz

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (release August 1, 2008; click here for preview) – Why they would make a third Mummy movie without the best piece of the franchise (Rachel Weisz) or why Frasier would release two of the same movies in the same handful of weeks (Journey to the Center of the Earth) is beyond me. This movie just reminds me that Brendan Frasier and Jet Li have to have the worst possible agents – maybe they could team up to keep Frasier in comedies and Li in action flicks. And they HAD to flash their HUGE title after Indy did. Sigh.

Swing Vote (release August 1, 2008; click here for preview) – This movie reminds me of a movie I loved – My Fellow Americans with James Garner and Jack Lemmon except without any of the heart and plagued by too much of the new kitsch of Hollywood. How this movie could be funny or emotional is beyond me. And you have to ask yourself, what was the last Kevin Costner flick you liked?

TV buzz

Ebert’s run on “X and Ebert” and “Ebert and X” is over. After redefining how to review movies and how movies/movie reviews should be marketed, Ebert is coming off the air. His statement mentions things like his health but his introduction seems to imply that he was fired from the show he created. Although I rarely watched the show, this disappoints me because Ebert is such a great critic – his reviews and writing style have been a huge inspiration to me and this is just another step in reducing Ebert’s influence over a new generation of reviewers that could only benefit from his wisdom. I don't care if he can't speak and has to SIGN what he wants to say - he still deserves to be on the air.

I found the 24 trailer today which is a TERRIBLE trailer that makes me squirm. I can’t quite figure out if the movie is going to be a TV movie or if it will be released in theatres. Either way it seems difficult to make a 24 movie. Is it going to be called “2”?

What do you think about…

Brett Favre calling the Vikings? Sure that’s all sports mumbo jumbo but you can’t change the channel without hearing something about it! I think that Favre might have jumped the gun, BUT that if the Packers aren’t going to start him they owe him the chance to start somewhere else.

On the web

Sequels! I love talking about sequels more than I like the sequels themselves (most of the time) so here’s a good article from Den of Geek about sequels that have been greenlit or will be soon.

Truly geeky - We always need to highlight SOME top ten lists so here’s a list of the top 10 mad scientists AND the top ten dictators from Sci-Fi movies. Who would ponder these issues is clearly beyond me because I would never do that…

Death of the movie star? The Death of the Movie star is something we’ve talked about a lot here as has pretty much every blog looking to make a name for themselves.

Um…really?

Christian Bale as a women beater? I didn’t think this could possibly be true but after reading it everywhere else and then reading it from The Guardian – a qualified source – I had to accept that it was true. Is anyone else bothered by this? Read the story first…

Get serious

Hollywood and War - Some of my favorite movies have been about recent wars – Jarhead for the first Gulf War, and In the Valley of Elah for the second Gulf War. They get at important issues brought up by war and explore the psyche of our veterans in ways that were previously taboo and will hopefully help the public understand them. This article is an indepth look at important issues like there.

Who am I?
